Soon after Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian weighed in on the current fierce battle between Facebook and Google, eMusic CEO Adam Klein has also shared his thoughts. In an interview with Businessweek, he discusses Larry Page's performance as Google CEO during the last year (See also: Larry Page's one-year anniversary as Google CEO).
You can watch the whole video embedded above. Below are the quotes referencing Facebook. First, Klein brings up how Google+ may be growing in number of user accounts, but not in number of active user accounts, an issue I've underlined before:
Google+… their attempt at being the Facebook killer. They got a hundred million folks signed but not very many people are using it.
Next, when asked about Page's obsession with Facebook, Klein responds:
[Facebook] out-Googled Google. They came in with a concept. They grew it as the most unbelievable rate. So I remember when Larry and Sergey were, in the early days of Google, they had a tiger by the tail. They no longer have a tiger by the tail, and that's exactly what Facebook has represented. And it's in a community and an audience that are important to him. And, potentially, search could go inside Facebook. That's a real threat to Google.
The big brouhaha all started when news broke that Facebook is revamping its search feature. It's still unclear whether Facebook wants to improve search internally for its service, or search externally for the whole Internet. I've argued before that it won't do the latter for a long while, if ever, as it really needs to fix the former first.
