| | April 13, 2012 8:48 a.m. - by Steve Habel No. 1 -- FB Moss. Sophomore Chet Moss (6-2, 242) flip-flopped between LB and FB last season, was suspended for a game early in 2011 and missed the Holiday Bowl for unspecified personal reasons. Moss did not participate in most of the team's spring drills in order to focus on academics. Texas is thin at FB and wants Moss to be a factor at the spot, so he will play exclusively at FB this season once he is reinstated to the team. No. 2 -- S Phillips. The Horns need to fill two spots at S, and sophomore Adrian Phillips (5-11, 199) seemed set to fill one of those holes. But he missed spring drills after a shoulder injury and sat and watched as other players (most notably sophomores Mykkele Thompson and Sheroid Evans) made their case for the spot Phillips was eying. During the 2011 season, Phillips recorded 39 tackles, three TFLs, a sack, two INTs and three forced fumbles, but he better get well in a hurry. No. 3 -- PK Pruitt. Texas is looking to replace the graduated Justin Tucker, and the left-footed freshman Ben Pruitt (a walk-on) had first dibs on the job this spring. Pruitt was atrocious on FGs in UT's first public scrimmage and was not allowed to kick FGs in the spring game, an indication that coach Mack Brown didn't want to shake any confidence Pruitt may have built up after the early woes.
