Mexicans buying Idaho bean seeds and lots of them.  Negotiations for the sale of hundreds of tons of Idaho seed got underway for representatives of Mexico's dry bean industry and Idaho exporters several weeks ago in Boise. Following successful meetings during the Lt. Governor's Trade Mission to Mexico last December, and the Idaho Bean Commission's promotions over the past twelve years, 13 industry representatives came to Boise.  I asked Diana Caldwell of the Idaho Bean Commission to talk about all of this activity on the buy side. "After 12 years of promoting Idaho certified bean seed in Mexico, we are thrilled that SAGARPA the Mexican Department of Agriculture is 100% behind getting Mexican growers in bean growing states to purchase our Idaho certified seed."

Part of the reason for Mexico's extreme interest lies in the fact that they have had the lowest rainfall since 1941… meaning extreme drought. Eight exporters of Idaho dry bean seed have indicated their interest in participating in the negotiations.
