Facebook users have been able to create Lists in order to organize their friends for awhile, but now they've got a way to keep track of everything else — such as Pages they "like" or individuals they subscribe to — as well. The feature used for that task is called an "Interest List," and it could help you turn Facebook into a personalized newspaper.
As Facebook software engineer Eric Faller explains in a blog post, Interest Lists will help you keep track of the things that you care about while keeping your Facebook Experience tidy. Interest Lists you create or subscribe to wind up in a little bookmark on the left-hand side of your News Feed and won't crowd everything else. (Only the top stories from the Interest Lists you subscribe to appear in your News Feed, the rest are hidden behind the bookmark.)
There are plenty of different Interest List sections — or Feeds, as Facebook's calling them — to which you can subscribe, ranging from broad topics such as "Tech News" or Sports to more specific themes like "Recipes."
